What systems in a data center should be maintained on an ongoing basis? A. All the supporting systems in a data center face heavy loads and must be properly maintained to continue operating satisfactorily. These systems include cooling, humidification, air handling, power distribution, backup power generation and much more. Data center per-cabinet power consumption has steadily increased over the past several years as pedestal servers drawing 1KW/rack have given way to 1U/2U pizza box servers at 3.5KW/cabinet and blade implementations at 10KW/cabinet. Faster CPUs, larger memory chips, and smaller disk drives also continue to increase power demands. Where possible, use outside free air as an alternative to expensive air conditioning. Operating a Data Center not only requires a comprehensive skill set, but also a little forethought into the overall industry landscape. The usual goal of virtualization is to centralize administrative tasks while improving scalability and work loads. IT has found as the most compelling tool is virtualization technology. To qualify as a true enterprise solution, a storage management system must be able to scale across the entire enterprise. This means it must be able to handle multiple servers spread across wide geographical areas. The solution should further leverage technologies such as clustering and load balancing to support hundreds or even thousands of client computers. It also must support various network infrastructures and firewall configurations. With the Cisco UCS M81KR adapter, multiple virtual interfaces (VIFs) can be identified to match those used by the service console, VMware VMkernel, virtual machine data, Cisco Nexus 1000V Series VLANs, etc. as required. Each of these adapters can be defined within the Cisco Unified Computing System as connected to an individual fabric interconnect and, optionally, enabling a failover to the other. A green data center is a repository for the storage, management, and dissemination of data in which the mechanical, lighting, electrical and computer systems are designed for maximum energy efficiency and minimum environmental impact. The data storage system may further include a third arbiter for controlling communication of data from the first storage processor and the second storage processor to a third group of disk drives of the disk drive array. Selected data isredundantly stored on disk drives in the first group of disk drives, the second group of disk drives and, the third group of disk drives such that, upon failure of the first arbiter, the selected data is available to the first storage processor and thesecond storage processor through the second and third arbiters.
