What is a data center? A. A data center is a place where business operate the part of their IT infrastructure that requires the highest grade of power, bandwidth, air conditioning, monitoring, and technical support. Power continues to lead as a concern for data center operations. Data centers are designed to a specific power density - watts per square foot - with a typical cabinet of equipment occupying 14 sq. ft. of space. Gradually raise the temperature at the server inlet point to run up to 24 degrees Celsius (75 degrees Fahrenheit), but use sensors to monitor hot spots and supplementary cooling, if required. Operating system virtualization is the use of software to allow a piece of hardware to run multiple operating system images at the same time. Network virtualization is a method of combining the available resources in a network by splitting up the available bandwidth into channels, each of which is independent from the others, and each of which can be assigned (or reassigned) to a particular server or device in real time. Data centers are commonly filled with large numbers of servers that require a tremendous amount of time and money to maintain. The ideal storage management solution should back up files and information automatically and in real time. In addition, organisations need a storage management and data protection solution that enables them to cope with rapidly increasing storage volumes and the increased complexity of desktop and laptop computers. The Cisco Unified Computing System creates a highly dynamic and cohesive integration with network and storage resources to meet the rapidly changing needs in today's data centers. Green IT can be defined as research in and use of IT in an efficient and environmentally friendly manner. Data storage systems are used in a variety of businesses for the purpose of storing and maintaining data which is critical to the operation of the businesses and their customers. It is very important that such data storage systems be highlyreliable to minimize or eliminate the chance of losing data if the system fails. The most secure and reliable systems employ total redundancy, in which every component of the system is replicated, such that, upon a failure of a component, anothercomponent takes over operation, so that the data storage system can remain fully functional. For example, two storage processors may be provided in a system such that if one fails, the other assumes the operation of the failed processor as well asmaintaining its own. However, total redundancy is expensive and can be an inefficient use of system resources. Next-generation data centers have specific server networking needs, and the Cisco Nexus 5010 one-rack unit (RU) switch provides an Ethernet-based unified fabric that's designed to meet those needs. |
