What is a building management system (BMS)? A. In larger data centers, the building management system (BMS) allows for constant and centralized monitoring of the facility, including temperature, humidity, power and cooling. Power continues to lead as a concern for data center operations. Data centers are designed to a specific power density - watts per square foot - with a typical cabinet of equipment occupying 14 sq. ft. of space. Gradually raise the temperature at the server inlet point to run up to 24 degrees Celsius (75 degrees Fahrenheit), but use sensors to monitor hot spots and supplementary cooling, if required. Recent changes to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure put IT on the front lines for ensuring a business is complying with regulations, notably Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPAA. Not only is it necessary to store key data for longer periods, but being able to retrieve information at a granular level –right down to specific emails –is now an IT responsibility, one that if not handled properly could result in a vacation with the local municipal system. Server virtualization is the masking of server resources (including the number and identity of individual physical servers, processors, and operating systems) from server users. The intention is to spare the user from having to understand and manage complicated details of server resources while increasing resource sharing and utilization and maintaining the capacity to expand later. For all of the upside virtualization is not magic, and it can introduce some new challenges. But in most cases the many cost and efficiency advantages will outweigh any issues, and virtualization will continue to grow gain popularity. The most basic method of backing up your data is on a simple floppy disk. However, this method is essentially obsolete, as it is difficult to even by a computer which includes a floppy disk drive these days. With CD-Rs and now DVD-Rs being cheaper than ever, it is possible to store far more data on a single disk than was ever possible with a floppy disk. New computing resources can be deployed in a just-in-time approach. Traditional physical and virtual workloads can be easily migrated between servers through remote management, regardless of physical connectivity. The Cisco Unified Computing System improves availability, security, agility, and performance through an integrated architecture. Building green IT systems do come with an added cost. These systems do need to take into account the overall short and long term sustainability, the total cost of ownership and the costs of safe recycling and disposal. But when used with efficient and effective policies, the return on investment can be much greater for the organization, employees and the community. Both small businesses and global enterprises have users all over the world who require access to data 24 hours a day. Without this data access, revenue and customers can be lost, penalties can be owed, and bad press can have a lasting effect on customers and a company's reputation. Building a high availability IT infrastructure is critical to the success and well being of all enterprises in today's fast moving economy. Nexus sets the stage for converged Fibre Channel and Ethernet networks. The Nexus products will allow companies to consolidate their separate server and storage networking infrastructures onto one unified network fabric. |
